1. Memorize or store the exact warning colors used by your vehicle.
2. Confirm the location of the high-voltage service-disconnect point if your manual lists one.
3. Save emergency roadside-assistance numbers in your phone and the vehicle.
4. Learn the fire, submersion, and collision rules below before you need them.
5. Do not modify, open, or touch orange cables, connectors, or covers.

What high-voltage means in practice

EV high-voltage systems can cause serious injury or death when damaged or handled incorrectly. In a crash, submersion, or damaged cable condition, assume the system is live until a qualified responder says otherwise.

Warning signs to take seriously

Red high-voltage warning: Stop safely. Exit the vehicle if directed. Call support or emergency services if instructed.

Amber high-voltage notice: Plan service soon. Continue cautiously only if the vehicle explicitly allows operation.

Unusual sound, smell, or spray: Battery cooling pumps, fans, or unexpected chemical odor near the underbody can indicate a cell or thermal event.

Smoke or fire involvement: Exit and move upwind if safe to do so. Call 911 and notify responders that the vehicle is an EV.

Emergency response sequence

Before exit, only if it is safe:

• Park in a safe location if possible.
• Engage park and apply the parking brake.
• Exit the vehicle and move away from traffic, smoke, liquids, or damaged electrical parts.

After exit:

• Call emergency services and identify the vehicle as an EV.
• Do not re-enter until qualified personnel clear the scene.
• Do not touch exposed cables, damaged charge ports, or battery-area surfaces.

Tow and recovery:

• Use only flatbed towing when high-voltage warnings are active.
• Confirm the towing operator understands EV transport requirements.

Fire and submersion rules

Fire:

• Do not try to fight a battery fire yourself.
• Call emergency services and tell responders the vehicle has a high-voltage battery.
• Follow responder instructions; EV battery fires may require extended cooling or monitoring.

Submersion:

• Do not stay inside a submerged or partially submerged EV unless no other exit exists.
• Exit and move away from the vehicle.
• Do not reconnect power or charge the vehicle until inspected.

Collision:

• Assume structural damage may affect HV cabling, battery containment, or sensor systems.
• Let first responders secure the scene before inspection.

Charging safety reminders

• Inspect the charge port, cable, and inlet before every session.
• Never force a connector or adapter.
• Keep children and pets away from charging hardware.
• Report repeated charge-interruption warnings rather than ignoring them.
